I was caught off guard by the race not finishing on the Roubaix Velodrome. I did a bit of checking, and it turns out that 1986 was the first year since WWII that P-R didn’t finish on the velodrome. That same, non-velodrome finish was used again in 1987-1988, and I believe backlash concerning the break in tradition moved was the reason P-R’s finish returned to the velodrome from 1989 to the present.
Agreed. Funny how time forgets.
Interesting that the organizers didn’t DQ the riders who went through the closed train crossing. This little tidbit would have been helpful for Bruyneel with his case for Hoste.
