The fine art of suffering (in this case, pushing the body and mind to its limits) is often what separates the top ranks of professional cycling from the… the rest of the peleton. Smart training, good nutrition, and natural talent, all aspects of a PRO’s season, only go so far. At the point, where a PRO has exceeded each, the race turns itself over to the rider who is willing to suffer the most.

does it really count as suffering if you’re doped to the gills?
It is great but…. it is a reasonably close copy/homage to a Nike spot.

Hup Hup.
You hit the nail on the head! I refer it as chasing the dragon or calling the demon out to play. Just put a post up about this very topic – For the Love of Two wheels.
If you suffer enough, you get the chance to make out with an Olsen twin:

…no matter how the deck is stacked, it still comes down to suffering on the bicycle…you transcend yourself, to battle others…
Oh man…good times…thanks for hooking us up with that Video.
I think hiawatha needs a hug.
Makes me want to leave work and get out for a nice, painful ride. Thanks BKW.
Just bike racing?
the music is a bit much. it is just bike racing.
Peanut – Thanks for the comment, your perspective is a wonderful addition to the discussions that take place at BKW. I hope you see some new readers as a result of the link.
I was quite impressed with Bart Wellens’ ride at Worlds. He turned himself inside out to come up with a fine result of 4th after multiple hard crashes – one of which was on pavement – and a broken wrist. I was inspired by his ability to dig so unbelievably deep. I will give it a go with him in mind at my last cross race this sunday!
And thanks for the “belgian vegan” props on your site – i’m quite honored!!!
This is one of my favorite youtube videos. Thanks for posting it!
Kelly – True, and both exmples present. The Rasmussen TT is still hard to watch. Don’t forget anything with Hinault. That guy could take some serious punishment.
Sweet vid! That gave me goosebumps. Thanks for sharing, Freddy.

You could have summed that all up by just showing Rasmussen’s 2005 final Time Trial in the Polka-Dot jersey. That was suffering at it’s best. Or you can just show every Lance vs. Jan match-up.
The Beloki crash still makes me look away.
